Toyota ha anunciado los detalles de esta nueva competición en Gran Turismo de 2021. Esta vez viene con coche como actualización que deberíamos recibir a finales de verano, la nueva versión del Toyota GR 86. La TGR GT Cup es una nueva serie global en la que la alineación de GR, incluidos los vehículos de carretera de GR y los coches de carreras dedicados, participarán en carreras competitivas a lo largo de una temporada. Además del GR Supra y el GR Yaris, está prevista la presentación del recientemente anunciado GR 86 a mediados de año. Al variar los modelos de coche en cada ronda, los jugadores pueden disfrutar de carreras virtuales con una gran variedad de coches, algo que es difícil en los deportes de motor de la vida real.
En parte por los efectos de COVID-19, 2020 fue un año en el que la gente prestó más atención que nunca a los e-Motorsports, como demuestra la celebración de las 24 horas virtuales de Le Mans. Muchos jugadores de todo el mundo también participaron en la Copa GR Supra GT y en la Contrarreloj GR Yaris, organizada por TGR. Además, tras aparecer en Gran Turismo SPORT, se compraron aproximadamente 1,30 millones de GR Supra y 530.000 GR Yaris, lo que indica que muchos jugadores de todo el mundo disfrutan de los modelos GR.
TGR planea continuar con un compromiso activo en los e-Motorsports para que los deportes de motor y los coches deportivos se vuelvan más familiares para la gente de todo el mundo y sean disfrutados por muchas generaciones en el futuro.
